Our M:O.R.E. presentation on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, moderated by Barbara Mathews, included participation from three Massachusetts town clerks: Katie Cavanagh of East Bridgewater, Melissa McGuinness of Easton, and Christine Teter of Granville.
We learned about the responsibilities of town clerks, including managing the complexity of elections, town censuses, dog licenses, and vital records while also acting as a repository for all town records from meetings and committees.
Watch this video to learn about how town clerks interact with genealogists. Our guests discussed resources they had that are less well known. Among these are maps. The town of East Bridgewater has maps dating from the town's earliest days. Some towns even have early school records.
Our audience had many questions which were graciously answered by the town clerks.
As part of executing its educational mission year-round, MGC offers programs on open records and other topics of interest to genealogists 4 to 5 times a year. The presentations are free but registration is required. To avoid conflicting with regularly scheduled meetings of oru member societies and organizations, M:O.R.E. presentations occur during the 5th week of a month. MGC looks forward to hosting our next event in late September of this year.
